For centuries, races from all over the cosmos have gathered in Alpha, a vast city at the hub of galactic civilization. But now Alpha is threatened, and only the space-and-time faring special agents Valerian and Laureline can save Alpha… and the universe itself! Based on a classic French comic book series, VALERIAN AND THE CITY OF A THOUSAND PLANETS brings director Luc Besson back to the kind of eye-popping, mind-bending science fiction with which he dazzled us in THE FIFTH ELEMENT. Fun, sexy and weird, VALERIAN is just the frenetic, candy-colored entertainment the summer offered, and it’s bringing with it a stunning of array of gorgeously designed aliens, awesome outfits, cool tech and badass heroes. Dane DeHaan (A CURE FOR WELLNESS) is Valerian, a dashing space hero. Cara Delevingne (SUICIDE SQUAD) is Laureline, his partner, and the brains as well as the brawn of the operation. They’re mixing it up with a stellar supporting cast that includes Rihanna, Clive Owen, Rutger Hauer and Ethan Hawke. Nobody brings the ruckus like Besson, and we’re excited to see him getting back on a big canvas replete with starships, alien worlds and Rihanna dressed like she’s appearing in a space production of CABARET. Nobody is as imaginative and exciting as Besson at his best, and VALERIAN looks to be Besson at his best.
